This is an antique hand-painted porcelain ewer, also known as a pitcher or jug. It is identified as a Royal Saxe ewer, likely manufactured by the Erdmann Schlegelmilch company in Thuringia, Germany, sometime between 1870 and 1910.
The ewer features a gourd-shaped body with a scalloped top and a decorative handle - it is on the smaller size, approx 6”tall, 6” wide & 2” deep.
It is decorated with a hand-painted floral pattern and gilt accents in the Art Nouveau style.
Ewers were often used with a basin for washing in the 17th and 18th centuries, and their materials indicated the household's status.
