This listing is for anyone who loves music boxes and might like to renovate one. This box houses the crème da le crème of music box movements, a Reuge 72 note movement. What I’m offering if it were complete, worked flawlessly, and needed no work would cost between $750 to $1000 or more depending on the intricacy of the box.
This Vintage Reuge 72 Note Music Box has more than one issue, however.
First, the mechanism is not attached to the box.
Second, it does include the original winder, but the start/stop mechanism is missing. However, a quick search engine search shows that they can be purchased for under $8 on your favorite auction website.
Third, the mechanism’s movement sounds slightly off in a few places as it plays the 3 parts of the song “Memory” from the 1981 musical “Cats” and most notably sung by Barbara Streisand.
Fourth, the inside top of the box is scarred and the wood covering one of the back hinges has popped off.
